The Balloon Ball

Over the years, there have been attempts to scale back how far the golf ball goes. One such attempt was made by the USGA in 1931. This is an article I wrote a couple of years ago about that attempt. The ball was hated by many, but with today’s better putting surfaces, it might not be so despised now.
I’m almost 70 and hit the ball as far as I did when I was in my 20’s. I’m not younger or stronger. Maybe the ones to try a different ball would be the guys running the Masters. They have been moving tees back and back so far they will be in a neighboring state pretty soon. Since it is an invitational, just create a ‘Masters’ ball for the tournament. Back the distance off and see if anyone would accept the invitation.
